TITLE: Prosthodontist
REQUIREMENTS: Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in Dentistry required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Residency program accredited by the American Dental Association.
JOB DUTIES: Examine patients’ teeth to determine the proper course of action. Discuss patients’ medical history and dental concerns through patient consultations. Determine the size of dental prostheses by taking impressions of patients’ teeth and jaws. Collaborate with the lab to make new prostheses by sending out wax models. Fitting dental prostheses into patients’ mouths and determine if adjustments are needed. Perform bonding procedures to fix chips, gaps and cracks in teeth. Whitening teeth with procedures that treat discoloration. Regular procedures that will be performed include Crowns (artificial covers made of metal or porcelain that replace the visible portion of a tooth above the gum line), Dental Implants (titanium posts implanted in the jaw to replace one or more missing teeth), Porcelain Veneers (thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of teeth to improve their size, shape, and color), Bridge Implants (tooth replacements supported by healthy adjacent teeth), and Dentures (full or partial removable sets of artificial teeth used to restore a patient’s smile).
SALARY: $135,741 per year.
