TITLE: Design Director
REQUIREMENTS: Master of Science Degree in Graphic Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Urbanism, Architectural Engineering, Design Engineering, or related educational degree and 3 years of experience as Architectural Designer, Design Engineer, Designer, Maker/Designer, Industrial Designer, Mechanical Designer, Mold Designer, or related occupation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: At least three years of experience in: Understanding of tectonics, details, aesthetics, and scale; Integrated rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and CNCing; Ability to drive design process through material exploration, mock-ups, and testing; Liaise between the project design team, the studio-making team and external model makers.
JOB DUTIES: Best in class design ideas and execution across all projects; Proposing ground breaking new ideas and well considered pitch documents, ensuring that they are creatively cohesive and easily accessible to the team for future reference; Connecting with new potential production partners, from individual specialist practitioners to larger production houses; Researching key opportunities to further our reach in the public art space and formulating submissions; Working closely with the Global Creative Director to implement the creative process and formalise its use within the studio and ensure it’s communicated and followed amongst the creative team on all projects; Spearheading our efforts in creating self-initiated partnerships, identifying key potential partners and driving projects forward; Deliver excellent presentations that are well considered and run in a timely manner; Form strong client relationships that encourage return to future projects in the studio; Helping to build upon the ‘activate’ offering of the studio as a new revenue stream and find a way to include on all projects in some way; Leading on studio pitches with the support of the creative and marketing teams, developing creative ideas in order to win new projects; Taking on feedback related to previous projects, identifying key learnings and objectives to ensure upcoming projects are as creatively engaging and profitable as possible; Assisting the PM and production teams offering support and guidance across to ensure only budget compliant design ideas are shared with the client; Formulating initiatives to link the US and UK studios through work, social and creative means, strengthening communication and keeping a cohesive culture between the two; Recruiting the best possible talent across the company by liaising with hiring managers to refine job specs, posting on job boards and using Personio applicant tracking tool to guide candidates through the recruitment process; Arranging frequent lunch sessions in which artists and makers present their crafts to the team in mini Acrylicize CPD’s; Contributing to the WIP studio goals as assigned to you.
SCHEDULE: Work at office Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; work from home Monday and Friday.
SALARY: $114,400 per year.
TRAVEL DETAILS: Will be required to travel occasionally, perhaps a few times a quarter for a few days to various client sites.
